PCA are pleased to announce their participation in the 13th International Conference on Turbochargers and Turbocharging organised by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), taking place on 16th and 17th May at Twickenham Stadium, London. PCA has regularly attended the conference, it attracts engineers and exhibitors from many of the World's leading manufacturers and end-users with strong technical papers and excellent networking opportunities. PCA is proud to be Lanyard Sponsor for this year's event, we will also be present in with a stand in the exhibition and Dr Hamid Hazby will present a technical paper entitled 'Inducer design of centrifugal impellers'.
The paper discusses the impacts of inducer design on the performance of high speed impellers. The sources of aerodynamic loss and the design strategies to control these losses in high speed impellers are explained. This naturally introduces fully three-dimensional design concepts including the application of free-form blading and leading edge sweep. These bring associated mechanical challenges; mitigation of these is also discussed. Examples of successful deployment of the design concepts in high speed impellers are presented and, to set this in context, the necessary compromises in multi-objective optimization of the wheel are explained.
